Meet Sharmane Andrews, the Board Vice President for Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund.
For two years, Sharmane has advocated tirelessly for single parent students. She not only secures funds from her employer, Simmons Bank, but also is a regular presence at ASPSF events — from local bingo nights to our statewide annual luncheon, often bringing along her team from Simmons to show their support.
Originally from Helena and now based in Little Rock, Sharmane is a dedicated advocate for economic empowerment and education. Her own story — returning to college at 33 to earn two degrees for the sake of her children — reflects the same determination and heart that ASPSF students bring to their journeys.
Sharmane’s insight, warmth, and lived experience make her an invaluable leader on the ASPSF board. Learn more about what drives her in the Q&A below!

What do you love about the ASPSF mission?
ASPSF’s mission is a reminder that economic disparities are real but can be overcome with consistent partnership, perseverance, encouragement, and financial support. Single parents have to juggle many tasks. At times, that can become overwhelming, from allocating time to their own studies and their children’s to choosing between purchasing class books or placing food on the table. ASPSF can and does arm single parents with life skills to scholarships to tackle the road ahead.
How did you find out about ASPSF?
I attended an event – A Night of Hope.

What’s your proudest accomplishment?
Getting my bachelor’s degree. I overheard my children speaking, and they stated that “Mom doesn’t have a degree, and we are just fine.” While we were fine, I wanted them to understand the value of an education. As a 33-year-old, I went to college. Not for me, but for them. My college degree has blessed me tremendously and them, too. It was the “Ambitious Sharmane” who sought out the dual degree. I wanted them to know they can do it!
Fun fact about yourself?
I love musicals and ballets. Can’t sing, but I love to try.
What do you love about your job?
I love regulations, and I love helping the community. My career allows me to dance around in both aspects. While Simmons Bank has grown over the years to be a regional bank, it’s always been community focused.
